Paglianetto

Pagliano, Matelica

Marche

Borgo Paglianetto was founded in 2003 and its rise has been meteoric.  Their twenty five hectares are a few miles north of Matelica and most of the vineyards are between four hundred and four hundred and fifty meters on chalky, clay slopes at the head of the ‘Alta Valle dell'Esino’ valley.  This has an unusual North-South aspect where the microclimate is quite unique.

The winery is modern and well equipped.  The vineyard is farmed organically and received full certification in 2014, they have dipped a toe into the world of biodynamic winemaking though for now we have left those wines behind.

The estate is largely dedicated to Verdicchio, from which it makes four versions of Matelica, plus a desert wine and grappa.  There is a red from Lacrima, Sangiovese and Merlot, it is beautiful and worth keeping an eye out for.
