Gusbourne

Appledore, Kent

Founded by Andrew Weeber, an early advocate of English wines who planted the classic vines of Champagne:
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meurnier from the off on ten hectares of south-facing land in Kent and Sussex, just six miles from the coast.

Charlie Holland makes the wine and Jon Pollard looks after the vineyards, it is a winning team ‘English Wine Producer of the Year 2013’ in fact, according to the International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Their still Chardonnay ‘Guinevere’ won a regional Gold at the 2013 Decanter World Wine Awards, this is close to as good as it gets, most importantly.

Away from the wine, it was bought in 2013 by Shellproof, the sparkling wine investment company owned by Lord Ashcroft.
In many ways it is a reverse takeover with Shellproof both changing its name to Gusbourne and moving to their offices.
The new company is set for an AIM floatation and plans are afoot to plant another 50 hectares of vines and expand the production capacity of the cellar.
Having good cash reserves also means that a policy of holding wines on the lees for extended periods of time can be maintained.

Selling incredibly well at Northcote Manor and has listings at the Fat Duck and Salt Rock.
