  1. Brovia. Barolo 'Rocche' 2005

    eRobert Parker (Galloni) 92 points
Is all class and elegance. Sweet, open aromatics meld into an expressive core of small red fruits. As is often the case, the Rocche present a very fine, chiseled expression of fruit framed by relatively soft, silky tannins. In 2005, the Rocche is remarkably accessible, although it will likely firm up a bit in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022.

    Sampietrana Salento Terre Cave
    Salento  IGT

Cocoa, damson, coffee, eucalyptus and mint on the nose. Round, soft and powerful, a touch of earthy vegetal grip from the Primitivo, deep liquorice and sloe fruit, big sweet tannins, complex and long.

  3. Ascheri. Barolo 'Pisapola' 2012

    Ascheri Barolo Pisapola 2012
    Barolo DOCG

    Grape Nebbiolo

A light-footed, mid-weight Barolo.  For me, this is a very nostalgic wine with its faded old English rose and wild strawberry nose.  A lovely mahogany patina, delicate berry, tobacco, violet and rose flavours, classic confident Barolo with fine tannins and no interfering oak or over-ripeness, a genuine, nuanced wine which perfectly demonstrate the feminine characteristics that are rising the stock of this corner of Barolo.

  5. Conte Emo. La Montecchia Merlot 2014

A fascinating Merlot which is simply fantastically drinkable with its fresh, minty, sour cherry fruit which developed real weight and structure over twelve months.

The top wines of the estate were not made in 2014 so this wine had access to the best fruit.

Deep gutsy cherry fruit with an earthy grip, floral elements, porcini and fine black tea.  An epic and intense Sangiovese.

  8. Brezza. Barolo 2012

    Brezza Barolo 2012
    Barolo DOCG

Quite deep core of garnet but very pale on the edge, no evidence of amber of bricky colours.
Extraordinary nose, huge and complex, a bit of an assault really: dark chocolate, cedar, rose petals the full Barolo experience in fact.

  9. Sant'Agnese. Spirto 2007 Magnum

Wonderful intense fruit. The tannins have real grip, firm not obtrusive; depths of cassis and balsamic-laced strawberry are joined by eucalyptus and mocha.

  10. Paolo Petrilli. Sangiovese 2010

There is a fair amount of Sangiovese in Puglia, finding a pure Sangiovese is extremely rare, finding one of this quality does not happen, it is too hot.  This has the hallmarks of a Montalcino, muscular fruit, supple, woven tannins and fine floral nuance mingle with spice and herb.  A great wine.
