Villa Giada Suri Bianco
Grapes Cortese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon
Villa Giada’s Suri Bianco is a white wine based on Cortese with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay included in the blend. The vineyards were selected for white grapes because of their exposure to freshening winds, important for producing high quality white grapes. The harvest is manual and fermentation is in temperature controlled steel tanks at 16˚C. The wine is usually bottled in the spring following the vintage, though sometimes a bottling is released before Christmas (something we always try to buy if it is released).
Basil, rosemary, lemon and elderflower aronas, an explosion of lemon and grapefruit – this must count as one of your 5 a day. A lovely aperitivo which has the character to accompany smoked fish.
A little confusion on the back label this year; the wine is mostly Cortese, but there is no mention of this. It is an administrative anomaly, to mention Cortese in a Monferrato DOC, the wine must contain at least 85% of the grape, less than this and it can not be mentioned - confusing I realise, but please be assured it is mostly Cortese with some Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The DOC has been dropped for Vino Bianco. 12.5%
