Villa Giada Barbera Ajan Magnum
Barbera d'Asti DOCG
Made from vineyards around Agliano Terme, Ajan is the local name for this town which is famous for its Barbera. The vineyard faces from South-East to South-West, the soils are clay, rich in marl and chalk. The grapes are harvested by mid-October, the selection is mainly in the vineyard and those that make the cut are de-stemmed before pressing. The must is fermented using wild yeasts in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. It stays on the skins for two to three weeks after which it is decanted and held in steel over the winter, over which time malolactic fermentation takes place. It is bottled at the beginning of the summer and given another 7 months before being released.
Ajan, like all Andrea’s reds is made the old way and bottled without filtration so as it ages it will throw a slight sediment ‘fondo’. 14%
