Santa Vittoria Leopoldo
Rosso di Toscana IGT
This is a monovarietal Pugnitello, an ancient vine identified by the University of Firenze as having great potential and plantings are extremely rare, the most famous wine being released by San Felice from Castelnuovo.
The vineyard is just two hectares, south facing, planted ‘spur pruned cordon’ at a density of 4800 plants per hectare. Grapes are hand-picked and de-stemmed prior to fermentation which is in steel tanks at a controlled 28˚C for twenty days with frequent pumping over. The wine is aged in medium toast barrique for twelve months and spends a further eight months in bottle before release.
Pepper, capsicum and nutmeg, herb, spice, truffle and porcini loom large in this deeply flavoured wine. 13.5%
