Picech Athena Magnum
An astonishing wine that is only available in Magnum, a move which emphasises its ability to mature over many years. Athena is named after Roberto and Alessia’s daughter. It made from a plot of Friulano planted in 1966 and 1997 using a Guyot system at a density of between 4500 and 5500 plants per hectare. The vineyard is picked by hand, usually in the middle of September. The bunches are de-stemmed, pressed and fermented with the skins in large barrels for about twelve days, the wine is then moved to large barrels for twelve months and then into tonneaux for six months, it is bottled without being filtered.
Production is 500 Magnums
Full and deep apple, wild honey and lime infused with floral, spice and mineral elements. The taste appears to amplify and develop long after the wine has gone. A serious wine to be served with food, it is worth decanting as the wine is not filtered before bottling. 14%
