Following the success of the joint venture ‘Primovolo’ by close friends Andrea Faccio (Villa Giada), Giordano Capodilista (La Montecchia) and Sergio Zingarelli (Rocca della Maccie), we now also have their pure Merlot, Treperuno.
Treperuno is not an easy wine to categorise; merlot in equal measures from the Piemonte, Veneto and Toscana that is vinified locally prior to blending and aging in oak for twelve months.
Suffice to say, this is no ordinary merlot and so far in blind tasting views have ranged from Primitivo to Brunello, I find it very like Merlot and a very decent one at that.
Some of you may remember La Quadratura del Cerchio a fantastic experiment from Cipresso which combined Sangiovese from Montalcino with Primitivo from Manduria and Treper Uno has an element of that insanity, but it is a lot easier proposition, a joyous wine!
Blueberry and sloe on the nose, the slightest touch of strawberry jam and mint. Blueberry and cassis fruit, cinnamon, balsamic and roasted pepper nuance. An excellently balanced medium bodied red which is a pleasure to drink and I suspect it its best now. 13.5%
