A mountainous region whose production is dominated by cooperatives and large companies, the most famous being Ferrari, CAVIT and SAV.  The vast majority of wines are named after their vine; arguably it is the finest source of Pinot Grigio and is home to some of Italy’s finest Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco.

Spumante made the traditional (Champagne) way is amongst the best in Italy; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Bianco provide the base wines usually, though there are a number of excellent spumante of Nosiola.

The great red of the region is Teroldego di Rotaliano. Rotaliano refers to the high altitude valley whose gravel floor and cliff lined walls provide a unique climate perfectly suited to the vine.  Thanks in a large part to Elizabetta Foradori, small producers are coming out of the woodwork making some fantastic wine, it is worth noting though that the DOC area covers 390 hectares and there are 300 growers.  This is always going to be a wine in great demand.
