A rural economy in a region with a little skiing and a lot of beach.  The most famous wine is Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a blanket DOC that includes great and not so great wine.  There is a fashion to barrique age the Montepulciano wine and it works well, there is a cost though and these wines can lose their individuality.

Cococciola makes a supper-fresh light white and some of the top Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is excellent.  Avoid Valentini, overpriced and over-rated.
