Region

We have imported wines from Italy for over 20 years now and we find the wines ever more unfathomable, perhaps I am taking it too seriously for this is a country full of life, literally when considering the line of volcanic activity running up its spine, and the wines are born out of a love of food and friendship.

The unique line up of wines in every region is the result of history, it is not part of some big plan.
Italy was only unified in 1870 and it is a story of independent city states rather than of a nation. This independence ensured the diversity of culture, food and wine and local traditions have been proudly defended.
Again, the more I read the less I know.

  7. Santa Vittoria. Poggio al Tempio 2013

Elegant dark cherry and red berry fruit, cedar and tobacco with hints of truffle and leather, an unusually complex wine.  It just seems far better than it should be, if that makes any sense.

  8. Monte dei Roari. Pinot Grigio 'Le Tre Rie' 2016

This is no run of the mill PG, nothing convoluted or dilute here, just pure, lime, jasmine and banana on the aromas, fresh greengage and bitter lemon fruit flavours with tinned asparagus and tomato leaf, mineral, complex and fresh, bone dry and very lovely.

  9. Paolo Petrilli. 'Motta del Lupo' 2016

Plum, cherry violet and basil, very authentic ripe fruit aromas, a touch of sweet cinnamon and clove.  Soft, open raspberry and bramble flavours, very easy and beautifully refreshing. Organic and Vegan Certified.

  10. Villa Giada. Barbera D'Asti 'Suri' 2014

All bramble and raspberry, joyous and vibrant, it is remarkably flexible in that the full forest fruit is the perfect partner to linguine and wild boar ragù, alternatively it can be chilled (there is very little tannin) and works well with spiced seafood.
