Emilio Bulfon Cordenossa Ros di Sanzuan
This is an ancient variety from the western shores of the Tagliamento, whose cultivation was centred on Zoppola, it is a native of the Friuli which was forgotten by the modern wine world.
In the interests of research, we have tried to find another example of Cordenossa and have failed. I think this is the only one, which is a pity, because there are only a few thousand bottles to go around and it is a hideously enjoyable wine.
The grape bunches are small and loose, traditionally yields are high and the quality of this vine is highly regarded. What sets it apart is the length of flavours and the almost anarchic attack of fruit. As for the ageing potential? I have no idea, the vines are young and there are no old wines to experience - so it’s probably better to drink the wines sooner rather than later, no hardship there.
A rich red, damson and sloe, a dark and brooding stylish wine with slight herb and mineral elements and soft tannins. 13%
