Brovia Barolo Rocche 2004
Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo
Rocche is a very particular vineyard, steep with a high proportion of sand in the top soils. It is at an altitude of 350m and has a southeast exposure. Brovia own one and a half hectares of this cru which was planted exclusively with Nebbiolo in 1966. The harvest has to be by hand, the slope is too steep to use machines, 5,500 bottles are produced each year. 14.5%
WINE ADVOCATE OCTOBER 2008 93 POINTS
Brovia's 2004 Barolo Rocche reveals considerable depth in its aromas and flavors. The wine offers a typical expression of Castiglione Falletto in its perfumed ripe red berries, fresh flowers and spices, all supported by tannins that are finessed and firm at the same time. This is a poised, feminine Barolo of notable elegance. A touch of sweetness from the French oak lingers on the long finish. The Rocche is typically the most accessible of the Brovia single-vineyard Barolos, as it is again in 2004, yet today it is holding back quite a bit of its potential. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.
